Trident - Trunk 2009-10.jpg
I was quite happy with the way this tree is developing until I took it to a workshop and a fellow enthusiast said that the tree needed more nebari in the front. Now I always liked the way the front looked until he said that and while I repudiated his opinion at the time I am of a different mind now. The back of the tree has a flaring nebari as can just be seen on the right of the photo. Saturday I visited a bonsai nursery and came home with five trident babies and come January when the tree is dormant I am going to try my hand at doing 5 approach grafts in the bay of the nebari to establish more flaring roots in the front of the tree. There is no way the back can become the front so the existing flared roots are prominent so if I want flare I have to make it.Trident - approach grafts

Re: Trident - approach grafts
I would agree with that as well
the tree needs some filling in there
Will you lower it in the pot so the new roots will be the same height as the current top of th existing ones?
