Most likely a so far unnamed subspecies of Notelaea longifolia or venosa, collected 9mths ago from private property in the lower hunter.
In the Oleaceae family and described on PlantNET as being shrubs to small trees up to 9-10mtrs, this and all others growing around the local area closely match the rest of the descriptions for either of the 2 I am split between. However they only ever form low multistemmed clumps up to a few metres across by at most a metre high that grow from an underground lignotuber that is shaped like a donut that is over 2metres across in the largest specimen found so far. Even old clumps have this formation & the oldest trunks (up to 2cm dia usually much less) bear testament to the age so its not a case of old trees trying to regrow, this is there natural form.
This piece is half of the portion collected, of which it comprised about a quarter of the whole clump. I am keeping the other half and offering this piece for sale to anyone who might be interested in experimenting with this native. I have found no other references to it being used as bonsai so to have another working with it would be great. Pm me with an offer if you are interested, while part of my stock clearing to fund a glaze cupboard this piece is more about spreading risk & knowledge gain.
