The harmony of tree and pot..Juniperis Chinensis

Post by bodhidharma »

As our experience of Bonsai and all things related, changes, I have noticed in myself that what i once thought was balanced and harmonious is no longer so. This has taught me a valuable lesson in that when viewing a Bonsai you must be open to new ideas and input from people who have more experience and, what i call, time in grade. This Juniper has been with me a long time and as i grew with it i have changed it to suit my needs. One thing i have lacked in is to be able to connect a tree and pot that compliment each other. I thought with this tree that i always had it in the perfect pot. Every time i repotted it and changed it i thought, yes, i have nailed it. Certainly, in hindsight, this was not the case. More educated members on this site hinted at it but i could not see it. Finally the penny dropped and i started to see the importance of the pot and it is not always all about the tree. I changed this tree to suit the pot and if you look, you will see subtle changes in the tree. Future development, at this stage, is foliage refinement to form the cloud appearance which i have on the top of the tree but not the bottom...yet :D

What a difference it makes, however :imo: it needs to be a little deeper same shape, or shorten the tail :!:

Cheers :) Pup

NIce bodhi, I like the shape. It resembles Aladin and the Genie's lamp (In a good way).

Love it. And I think when you repot nexttime and lower it further into the pot it will look great.

That is both you and Pup who can see the need for that  so that is enough to sway me that it is necessary. It will be so on its next repot. :tu2:

Thank you Moj, things become obvious when pointed out. And a little bit of nebari rearrangement seems to be on the agenda also.
