Large Privet

Post by kcpoole »

I thought i might start a thread so I can keep track of the big privet I potted up today.
any comments / suggestions accepted.

My proposal is to create a Mother - Daughter tree ( although Nat reckons it should be a Daddy - Daughter as we created it not Mum :-))
The main trunk I woud like to bend to the right slightly where the first tapering happens. Maybe need a really big bar to achieve it.
Whaddya think is it worth it to try?

The Rear trunk I have not cut off as think i might carve it to give the impressoin of and old trunk that was broken off, and the tree then regrew from the base.
Thoughts?
Ken

Well I decided that this needed some work now that I have some carving tools :-)

I Repotted about 6 months ago and found the tall Trunk had died, and there are no roots on that side at all. As a result a major rethink was required

the original trunk I had cut off was now going to be the front and I would cut off the complete dead section and carve it out. This would be the new back side

The "Daughter will still be so, but the Father :-) would be now much smaller.

the tree was repotted into a smaller Poly box now it would fit :-) and Ready to grow on for another year. It was potted with the left deeper in the pot to lower that side to make a better twin trunk out of it as the left trunk was too tall and I wanted to keep the bend in it.

During the carving I broke off a small branch on the top right of the trunk that now needs to regrow as this will become the new leader. Being Privet, I should have on next week

Comments and suggestions welcome and I will update as time progresses

Nothing like finding the smallest tree within hey Ken. If nothing else it makes it much more manageable to move ;)

It's progressing well and I look forwards to seeing it with a new apex and foliage pads.

Steven
