im not so sure if its just me or the weather.

hardly non of my 100 plus bonsai trees have flowered / fruited this year.

anyone else noticed this ?

im in melbourne by the way.

No. Well I am in syd but all my malus and prunus flowered as per normal

Did u do any pruning at the wring time and accidentally cut off the developed flower buds?

Hi Baz,

I had not noticed, so I have just taken a walk with this in mind.

Hawthorn- nothing (flowered well last year)
Grewia- nothing
Crabapples- very poor
Pyracantha- poor flowers no fruit (never had much luck with tis one)
Plums- very poor
Quinces- poor
Pommegranites- lots of flowers + fruit
Azaleas- very good
Ilex serrata- lots of flowers + fruit
Lavender- nothing (very profuse last year)

So I must agree it was a poor flowering year for healthy trees.

Hey Baz,

I have not had any issues with things not flowering etc... The only oddity this year is how late the Malus were coming back into leaf and flower... November before they finally started to wake up from winter. The fruiting apples flowered but not well, i put this down to late pruning to try & get more back budding. The halliana I have flowered better than it ever has & is also powering along, already having outgrown what it has done for the last 5yrs.

All of these are in the ground & i think part of the late start is the very mild winter I had here (alot of stuff didnt turn till august only to be budding straight away) and also how dry the ground is. On the surface of things it seems like we have had more rain than normal but the ground is dryer than I have ever seen, I have lost a couple of this years plantings as well as several that had been dug & replanted...even weeds are dropping dead....

I am thinking the warmer than usual winter & lack of rain could be factors...

I have noticed that all the leaves droped on the grape vines, their just coming back now.
also most of the kurrajong leaves turnd brown resently and droped. Ive noticed its not just
my place,its all around in town .
Also, many gums have an infestation of sawfly larvae.

Best ever year for crabapples here. Hawthorn too (though that's not saying much . Cotoneaster flowers as normal.
Fruit in the orchard is also very good though brown rot is getting most of the stone fruit. Might just have to spray for that one or we'll loose everything.

The grapes all lost leaves and fruit here too - Too much rain and warm weather = mildew and I did not spray for it. They're growing back now though.

as you in melbourne too ? because my trees have gone through almost the same as yours.
my pommigranites hare doing great ,
my crab apples poor too
pyracantha also poor

all my Japanese maples , liquid ambers and stuff are fine.. its just the flowering and fruiting this year lol
alot of my stuff started to flower , but seamed so short lived then usual.
