Hi all.
I have been contemplating digging a banksia that is not too far from where I live but before I do I would like to know a bit more about them, like, when would be the best time to dig a Banksia?
Also,
Do they back bud? What soil\growing medium is best for them? Are they a good species for bonsai?
Thanks in advance
Matt
…. Any other info anyone could share on them would be great.

Re: Banksia advice please
Hi Matt it would be easier for members to give you advice if they knew what kind of banksia it is. If you are unsure take some detailed photos of the leaves and bark to aid in an ID.

If you go to the home page you will see a list of topics. One is headed Australian Natives if you click on that particular page. It has a drop down which then list's the names of trees that are being used in Bonsai, with the relevant information.
There are 4 FOUR species of Banksia in there.

Thanks Pup and Tony
I will be sure to read through all the relevant info, I do not want to dig a tree that is not going to be good for bonsai or die because i have not done my homework.
I will take a picture of it and post it tonight. Hopefully you\ someone could tell me what species of Banksia it is and if it is going to be worth the dig.
Thanks again
