[SOLVED] Allocasuarina ?

Hi all,

I have been growing this tree for a few years now, it is a self sown seedling that popped up in one of my other pots, the only one to survive my treatment to this stage.

I think its torulosa but am not the best with identifying things. It has beautiful rugged bark from early on at the base & this is now starting to spread into the branchs. It is not the fastest grower compared to other varieties i have in the ground, only now after 2 yrs and 2 in a pot is it starting to get some size on.

Nice tree. The strong side branches are great, as they can take awhile to develop.

I'm pretty sure it is A. torulosa. The four-sided branchlets are pretty good indication it is not A. littoralis, which is the one it is mostly confused with. Cones of course are definitive, but you are not likely to get any? Ever see male flowers on your casuarinas? i've had one in thirty years.

Its been an interesting one to watch grow and develop, the side branches are being let go to help try & get some thickness into it.

I will post a thread soon with the whole tree & my experience with it.
