Another Banksia -To Defoliate Or Not ?

Post by boom64 »

Hi All,
Yes ,another Banksia.I have been following Nics :Repotting A Banksia :topic .As well as reading Grant Bowies ,Banksia Integrifolia thread .Still a little confused. I only recently got this little fellow. I cut off everything and trunk chopped at the start of spring.Have thinned the top several times ,but am growing the 2 side branches, hopefully to get some thickness. They have not been touched at the ends.[The 2 with wire on ]
I wish to repot but am unsure as to defoliate ,or maybe partial defoliate.I note that Craigw60 advised to cut of new growth when repotting .
Am at a real loss, i realize sometime you have to look at the long term stratergy :lost:
Any advise greatfully accepted.
Thanks John :fc:

Hi John, thats a very nice banksia. When I root prune my banksia I always completely defoliate them first, I am sure other growers have different techniques but this one works for me. Keep your tree in the shade until the new growth starts to push through.
