[SOLVED]Unknown fruiting pear/apple-like tree

[Kyushu Danji]

There is this lovely tree that I regularly walk past. It has ovate, rich green leaves in summer that turn reddish orange in the autumn. In spring there are quite large white scentless flowers that look very similar to stewartia flowers. At this time of year, fruit that has been developing since the spring have become very large.





I'm sure this is simple to identify, and I am usually pretty good at this, but I am stumped. What is it? Do they strike well from cuttings/can they be germinated from seed? Any good for bonsai?

Its a pear i belive as most pear flowers are white, apple blossom is quite differant and more striking , the variety maybe nashi which are delicious

That is unbelievable, I have the exact same tree fruiting in my yard and was going to post the same question, saves me taking photos now. I'm hopping that is a crab apple, the fruit when d dissected is very soft & bright orange. I have found to dog eating a few (he loves fruits and vegetable for some odd reason) so I'm hopping they are edible?

]wait on second glance i would go with a crabapple of some kind, the leaves are differnt. is the fruit quite small?

Haha, thats pretty coincidental. I don't think it is a nashi, although I agree they certinaly are delicious! Maybe it is a species of crab apple that I have never seen before, because it certainly does not resemble the crab apples I have. The fruits are your normal nashi/apple size..

This species seems to be much more compact - it is almost like a massive shrub rather than a tree. Also, in the spring it does not bloom as such, it sends out these leaves and then it sends out large white flowers - similar to stewartia, as I said. I have been eying this for ages..someone please help us out

EDIT: It may help to mention that the leaves are quite furry to the touch, and are greyish white underneath

I have a Nashi Tree...This one aint the same as mine... Crabapple might be closer

could it be a wild apple tree we have wild peach at back and fruit is simlar but smaller and leaves are same
as the non wild variaty

Quince would be my guess from the look of the twigs and fruit.

Here are some more detailed shots of the fruit and a leaf. It might help, the fruit is a little rotten though.

Its about 50-60mm in diameter.

Ok Ryan, yours is a Persimmon. Kyushu Danji has a Chinese Quince. Both are good for bonsai.

Ah thats why you said they were orange inside ryan! Mojo, I never even considered quince because it was so large, I think you could be right though!
