Olive Progression

This Olive has been in my possession for around 18 months?

Material came curtisy of 'edward scissorhands' (who has also over the past while become a great mate)

Its hard to get the 3D of the carving but im happy so far (my first real attempt at large scale carving)
Am working on pinching new growth to fill out the foilage.
Also waiting for the lime sulfer to weather (hopefully) to a not so stark colour

I like where this is heading Tex. I also have a few olive stumps that will have first stylings this year, so progressions like this act as a guide.

@ Mugan - taper is good, although it is really extreme, i do like it

@ Birchman - would love to see some of your olives as you work on them

@ Kyushu - The white lime/sulfer is nice, it has faded to a greyish colour, the stark contrast is nice but doesnt look very natural (my first time using lime/sulfer)



General question - how often does lime/sulfer need to be reapplied in people experiences?

I Re-do my trees on a yearly basis but wire brush them first. Nice Olive

I guess it always comes down to personal taste. In my opinion, on the right species the stark whiteness (for want of a better word) is an enhancement of the natural colouring. So yes, its not natural, but it adds something to that natural element in a complementary way.

Thanks for posting this progression Tex. Great carving work - first up effort or not! This little beauty is going to look great after some more ramification. It's just inspired me to go outside and do some work on a couple of olives I have sitting out back!!
