The best Acacia Howittii Prostrate bonsai
I reckon acacia howittii prostate has got all the qualities to be world-class bonsai. Australians should work harder on it as we got such a wonderful native. It can really compete with the white pines of Japan. Not many great one around though.
Which one is the best you have ever seen?
Mine is at Campbelltown Bonsai Group. Don't know who own it though.
Post some pic please for the great ones you have seen.

They are a wonderful subject. Sorry to correct you but it is "Prostrate" bonbon. Prostate is what men have problems with.
This one is three years old, two in the ground and one in the pot so far. I have a dozen i am ground growing as we speak. "Cognata" is one worth watching out for. It could also be a wonderful subject.

I love these trees! If anyone in Canberra knows where to get one I'd give growing one a shot!
So the Redwood turns to the Bonsai and says "Lend me a Tenner"......

Lots of the bonsai I have seen is letting it "prostrate" too muchkcpoole wrote:I have 1 I am trying to approach graft a new top onto as the original trunk broke

I think one should remove the lower branches early and stick it up to creat an upright style. Thin the foliage and reveal the branches structure. It takes time, though. I fertilize them quite vigorously, hopefully reach a decent size before I myself go to the heaven. Not sure whether they are native to heaven too , see?
