Thanks Ant,

I saw the photos earlier but did not pick up what species.
I expect Europe is the best place to find quality pinus sylvestris as bonsai, it is one of my favorite species.
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Hello all. It was a great honour being asked to work with Salvatori and being given the opportunity to work the deadwood. Some of the requests were lost in translation but we got there in the end. Great material and a masterpece in the making.

In the interest of helping members think about their own stock before styling, I'd like to discuss the factors that make this tree, with only one styling under its belt, work.

Taper.. The stylist has given this tree the feeling of being strong and permanant by bringing its foliage right down low. This takes advantage of its low curves. He has rid the tree of any straight and boring sections of trunk allowing it to meander from base to tip. It also has a feeling of being delicate in the stying of its fine branches and shoots.

Depth... Already this tree seems to project a feeling of fullness. It looks as though there is a nice crown of foliage and the fine tips have been wired out into a big dome, yet they seem to all have a relationship with key branches. Foliage crosses the trunk at certain points adding mystery to the composition due to interplay between light and shadow.

Interest... The front that has been chosen for this tree seems to not only move from side to side, but back and forwards also. Jins come out in front of the foliage into full light but other Jins sit in the shadows underneath branches. Once again, light and shadow playing an imortant part in the overall feeling of the composition.

All of this makes for a very stable, interesting and believable tree.. and it is only this tree's very first styling. Looking forward to seeing it in the future.

Thankyou Webos for a beautiful encounter with this tree. Through the eyes of a photographer, has allowed me to appreciate this tree from a much higher level now! Also has taught me more about how to improve my own. :worship: :tu:
