Great mother in law
Today I went and visited my Mother in law . When I arrived I saw her in the garden mucking around with something. I asked her what she was doing and she said that she was digging a couple of trees out because they were throwing up suckers everywhere. Being the good son in law that I am, I said that I would help her. I said that I would take them home and put them in the bin as well. These are the 2 trees that I removed, disregard the date and the quality of the pics. These trees are sitting nicely in seasol at the moment and will be there until tommorrow, so I can prepare the soil and pots. The first tree has had acouple of branches removed and I think over the next 12 months it will almost style itself, the other tree how knows but it has several trunks to work with and great looking aged bark. The species is a variety of "Ixora" and has great flowers in a nice shade of red. What do you think,
This is the second tree

Re: Great mother in law
I just remembered that my mother in law told me that these trees are as tough as nails because she has tried to poison them and hacked them down. So I think they should recover if I treat them with a little kindness as they have been treated like sh#t.

Re: Great mother in law
Great score. Hard to get such nice trunks. From the look of the flower, it appears you have the full size Ixora, not one of the dwarf ones which is great. Probably Prince of Orange I am guessing, but a bit hard from the pic. These things are great to work with as Bonsai. While I have not had one for very long down here I worked with them a bit while in Darwin. One of the Forum members on here ended up with my one and only surviving Ixora, perhaps if he sees this he might post a pic for you. They hate being pruned and will throw twice as many new shoots to pay you back if you do prune.
. While the flowers appear rather large, they don't look out of place on a smaller tree so those of yours will come up a treat I reckon. Leaf size will reduce nicely, however are prone to sending out the ocassional bigen. If it does that, just snip it off and the next one is likely to be small again. From my observation the tree doesn't need any special looking after and as your MIL said they are as tough as nails. Watch for Wooly afid and Meally Bug in the junction of leaves and branches.
Good luck, I believe you will enjoy these trees.
