Help with Aussie Native .

Post by boom64 »

Hi all
I have been checking out Babingtonia Virgata formely [Baeckia Virgata ] posts as i am unsure of my next move. I dug these out last winter ,they stayed green over spring/summer but only started kicking off several weeks ago.
I need to know should i start cutting back to shape on the larger plant ? The smaller plant should i let some shoots grow out to establish branch structure ?
Also several posts mentioned repotting in spring or autumn ,or work on the plants and re-pot in spring ?
Any advise greatfuly appreciated ,
Thanks John.

hi Boom,
depending where you live, and if some one else would like to jump in here, please do cause i know ill forget to mention something. Aus natives have every six weeks a flush of new growth. Middle winter last year i trimed a bottle brush's roots and removed branches lightly then repoted without a hitch. As well as some gums.I remember it being icy cold too with some heavy frosts. This is why i love aus natives as they are constantly growing. I would go for it,just dont cut any new growth till the leaf's harden off.J.M.O

No help here as I have only viewed this species before, just wanted to comment.

Lovely raft there and the uprights not bad either. :tu2:
Was the raft on the edge of a creek bed? The front two trunks look like they have natural shari, perhaps from debree flow? Though I guess it could also be lawnmower damage from the backyard. I'm a dreamer. :palm:

:gday: John if you go to the top of the home page, right hand side there is a search facility. Type in the words Babingtonia virgata, you will then have about 6-7 pages of information on your trees.
