Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
Thanks Antonio,
When they ask why I have not done any work today I will tell them that it is your fault.
I especially liked the last demo (which is in video form) well worth a look!

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
my limited view--I hope I don't offend anybody ------These blokes create impressive examples of their type but seem to go way past my idea of what bonsai is about-----the amount of dead wood in their art seems to have no connection with what I see as a "realistic" representation of a tree--to me it seems the tree has almost become the add on--I do see that all that white is very striking and impressive and possibly replaces to a certain degree the use of rocks as 'mountains' in the design--I also say that living in the riverland i have next to no chance to see in nature anything that looks anything like these designs( which I'm sure affects my attitude)-even as an armchair traveller I have not seen any thing like them in nature--
-perhaps this style is a natural progression for those who have mastered the more ordinary----and yes, I have much to learn.

Its all enviromental Guy. Dont forget this guy plays in the dolomites. Our mountains are molehills in comparison not to mention the vegetation is very different.
Alot of the material these guys play with have little or no man made dead wood. they are just cleaning up what nature at high altitude already created for them. But when they do they are striving to get that high altitude feeling acsoss to the viewer. Where the plant has been so ravaged by winds and buried under snow for months that there is very little live tissue left. However enough for the struggle to go on and this plant hang on to dear life for another year yet again!
Yes there is much to learn about this interpetation of nature especially when we dont live it. Some will say but why? what for when we have our own enviroments and scenarios? When we have our own native vegetation? Well thats very easy to answer; What floats your boat and why ?

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
true enough ant --but many of the designs of the live part seem to be as a full size, robust tree on an impossibly large piece of deadwood--as opposed to having the relatively small live remnants of a large tree, just a couple of branches clinging to life.

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
Thanks for that Ant. I am amazed that this guy has been practising for only 18 years
the Yamadori he must have access to must be amazing. We have nothing like that in Aussie
to learn refinement like that he must have incredible teachers also. Oh, i see, he's Italian.. that answers it then
Forgive the tongue in cheek Ant
Absolutely amazing trees. I want one

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
I read that Boon Manakitivipart (pictured) visits this 'sierra juniper' every year for inspiration, it remains protected in a national park in California south of Lake Tahoe.anttal63 wrote:Enjoy Guy and like i said whatever floats your boat.Guy wrote:true enough ant --but many of the designs of the live part seem to be as a full size, robust tree on an impossibly large piece of deadwood--as opposed to having the relatively small live remnants of a large tree, just a couple of branches clinging to life.
Boon is highly regarded in the bonsai world, I keep telling myself that I must get hold of his DVD series on pines.
Sorry Antonio.....he does not speak Italian

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
Hey hey Bodhi, You got it right!
To be Italian is already half way there, then if the euro alps is your your backyard play ground. You then have what is called an Italian Bonsai Dream !!!
Its not the years, as many young ones out there are proving, its just that some have got it and also the material to deliver it and know how to bring the best out of not so spectacular material also. Although 18 yrs by todays standard is a fair time. We are certainly not struggling to get our hands on information, nor do we have to be misled if we choose not to.
Thanks gerard for filling in the gaps. The california juniper that is pictured with and without boon was merely to give an example of how much deadwood is present in nature. As far as the balance of live verses dead there are many different scenarios out there in the wild. I have many pics of trees in the wild with even more than this. However we all know what happened last time i posted up to many pics so this will have to do.
I will finish by saying that Mauro Stemberger is one of the most respected and sort after bonsai acts in Europe and abroad at the moment. He has already recieved some very significant awards in bonsai with the best yet to come in the not too distant future. Mauro you and your trees rock !!!
Glad to see some of you have been inspired.

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
I think that so much stylised white actually detracts from the overall-- yes it is personal taste and too much dead wood doesn't float my boat

Re: DID SOMEBODY SAY BLOGS ???
extreamely inspiring!!!
he is very talented and all his trees are amazing.
Like Ant said the dead wood on these trees is mostly natural and shows the extremities of these trees lifestyle in nature. i am a big fan of dead wood and love trees that possess it.
