now that mothers day is over & the flowers are finished, then wondering what to do with the stems.here is one, i found this in my chrysanthemums book published1983. It says they can be grown in many styles, but only pictures these two pics .They are grown by cuttings at the end of january ,their grown on through successive potting in the manner of all chrysanthemums, with special attention to stopping and training of growths. The first stop usually made mid March, and subsequently other stops are applied every 3 to 4 weeks. Removing only the tiniest part of the growing tip, large leaves are removed. Branch training is acheived with small gauge copper wire. Then sujests not to shade plants or over water or over feed.
The plants are repotted every 4 to 6 weeks, then into a and relatively shallow decorative pot. and pruned the roots to fit. To induce uniform bloom development secondary growths associated with the basal one third of the main stem are pinched to 2 leaves, early September. Then from centre 1 third 5 days later, and from the topmost 1 third a further 5 days later. The plant is kept on the dry side in full sun to prevent undue elongation of the flower stems. Unwanted growth is pruned away & each bud cluster is debudded to 1 bud, & retain buds of even size & aim at the uniform spacing of buds over the entire plant.
