I dropped in to the Padre Pio Nursery at Annangrove, Sydney today and over the last couple of weeks I have visited many of the Bonsai nurseries in Sydney: Ray Nesci, Vineyard & Bonsai South. I know these are all operated as businesses, but I was reflecting on their importance in the promotion and continuance of Bonsai as a hobby. Not only do they provide people the opportunity to possibly encounter a bonsai for the first time, but they do then often spark an interest which leads some people to a lifelong interest in Bonsai and to the participation in our clubs. For me, Dorothy Koreshoff was an inspiration as she was for many and her legacy and that of both her husband and daughters is immeasurable and this impact took really 30 years until I eventually joined a club. So too I believe will be the impact of our present Bonsai Nurseries, particularly as they continue to promote clubs, seminars, etc. Yes, it is a symbiotic relationship, but most continue to exhude a continuing love for Bonsai. While we can propogate trees, dig them up, etc., the Bonsai Nursery is a necessary cog in the success of Bonsai.
A big thank you to all of our Bonsai nurseries and keep up promoting the Spirit of Bonsai.
For all of us: Go visit another Bonsai Nursery or refer a friend or relative so they too can take up the obsession. Let us keep supporting them as they support our love of Bonsai. "just a thought"

Ahhhh, toohey - Bonsai Nursery's - one of my favourite subjects. I do dig a large amount of stock trees but I still love to visit Bonsai Nursery's for inspitation as well as pots, books, pots, magizines, pots, mesh, pots, soil, pots, zeolite, pots, tools, pots, fertilizer etc. Did I mention POTS?

Yes I'd love to be able to dig up that Juniper I watched transformed at the "ideas summit" on the weekend.
Where do you dig most of your stuff from.
Which nurseries do you visit from Goulburn?

Thank you very much for supporting your local Bonsai nurseries. If you every plan a visit to Melbourne I'm more than happy to show you our nursery.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Bonsai Nurseries
Members of the Goulburn Bonsai Society keep their eyes and ears out for opportunities to dig potential bonsai in and around the local district. When we get too many trees for us to dig, we offer the opprotunity to others to share in our spoils.
We take a bus trip to Sydney at least once a year to visit a bonsai nursery or three and we have been to then all (I think). A bus trip, bonsai nursery's and good friends, you can't beat it!!!!!
