(WANTED) bONSAI TURN TABLE

Post by Fukien beech »

Hello Bonsai Family!!

I am looking for a bonsai turn table (is that the correct terminology?) My back is well hunched now from using regular tables :P I am willing to spend the right price for the right item...I have seen some on bonsai websites for sale but am after one with a little more character! Must be in VIC. Please post a reply or PM me if anyone has a turn table they no longer require for a eager amateur to adopt! :D

Thanks for your time

I have 2 I use
1 is a Plastic Plate looking thing from a $2 shop, Had it for about 5 years now ans still going good
The other is an old Gas lift Office chair base, and a flat timber top on it. On Wheels so easy to move and height adjustable too.
The chair came from the side of the road on a throwout pile so cost nothing :-)

Alternatively you could make, one unless you want a fancy looking one?
I did, at it was very cheap...only thing I purchased was three swivel wheel casters from Buzzings (I already had some screws and wood).
I attached the wheels to a disc of wood and cut off a broom handle(tapered at one end) and used it to mount another disc of wood above it with the wheels inbetween a wood sandwich. Hope that makes sense...I can take a pic if you need one?
It isn't pretty, however you could paint the wood or carve/engrave it, but it is functional, solid and practical.
It took half an hour to make (and I have no experience at building things in general).
It cost me under ten bucks and I enjoyed making it.
Cheers, Dario.

hi mate :D

if you are feeling inventive there is a couple of things you can do if you have a router and some timber, a little time and patience.

it is a simple as marking a circle on two pieces of board, using your router with a half circle bit in it about the size of a marble, route a groove in your timber in the shape of the circle on both pieces of wood. then using a few marbles place these in the groove on your bottom plate, and then place your top plate on matching the grooves up, this will give you a nice, easy turning turn table that you can make yourself, maybe add a nice routed profile to the edges to give it some character and a nice stain or paint and you got yourself a reasonably cheap, strong turn table that will last a long long time. :D
