This time hes working harder

Post by Pup »

This time Craig our illustrious moderator had to work a bit harder, but the prize was smaller. He first had to remove rocks then dig the look for roots. Tenacity was his and he drove away with a big grin and I was minus some Juniper squamata.

This is the second tree before anything had been done to it ,

Image

The trunk as you see it in blue is a ground layered section, with an interesting bend not far above soil level, the general direction of the roots marked in green,

Image

I studied this tree for a while, looking at the different possibilities. Only 1 position seemed right, I wasn't sure but decided to give it a try,
I turned the trunk upside down and rearranged the roots to flow the opposite way,

Image

And potted it up, I had to cut a section out of the pot for the trunk to fit down into, then patched up the hole around it,

Image

The angle looked right but the long tall straight trunk didn't quite fit , so i cut it off and went to the next step,

Image

and some small alterations ,

Something a little different, still alot to do after it recovers, but i like it ,

hmmmm intersting potting method, taking lateral thinking lateral, I think.....another good score. :tu:
gotta say I love that sand...I'm just building up courage to go across the road to dig the neighbours 20 year old Prunus whateverous that he offered last week...out of clay mate, clay.

Lovely find :-)
You sure you can do that much to a Juni at the same time?
I woud have waited for recovery from collecting first. It will be interesting to watch
