Post by Luke308 »

Hi, just thought I would let everyone know that there is a segment on "Gardening Australia" this weekend (20th August) on ABC. It features Colin Warren from the Southern Bonsai Club in Adelaide who has won several awards for his Bonsai at the Royal Adelaide Show, and various Bonsai exhibitions.
Also he has recently started a facebook page called "bonsai Australis" please check it out, an click "LIKE"
Hope you enjoy :D

I missed last nights episode as well but just watched it online. It was nice to see such a large range if native bonsai. Well done! It might help to get more people into our wonderful hobby and more people doing Australian natives as bonsai. On that note I have a loit of Australian natives at the nursery. I have 200 Backea virgata Nana in 6" pots available for $10. The have some nice movement in the trunks. I will take some pictures today as we have our free workshop on at 1.00pm.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris, please excuse my ingorance, but what are "Backea virgata Nana" or Baeckea Virgata Nana" I'm guessing they are Natives? can you please link a pic? Also what does the term "NANA" mean in a plant name? I see it all the time. Does it mean it is a dwarf variety? Also, where are you located with these 200 Backea virgata Nana?
Thanks mate
Luke

Just had a look at "Bonsai Australis" on facebook and had a look at Colin's Grand Champion Callistermon at the Adelaide Royal Show 2011. Some very nice trees, I especially like the olive group. Worth a look if you like Native bonsai :tu:

I hate to break this to you Luke308 but, although it seems olives are native to Australia living in South Oz they are not :o

I know i know, But out of the 10 trees he entered, 8of them were Natives. the olives were the exception, but I was saying I liked them also. After re-reading my post I have to admit it didnt read very well :palm:
