ID of Potter Please

Post by Watto »

Hi,
I have had this pot for quite some time and today I decided to use it again, but on examination I was intrigued about the pots origin and the potter who I have assumed is an Aussie.
If anyone could provide some info I would be most grateful.

We too at the collection have a pot with those initials and map of Aus. SJW is how I read it.

The only explanation to me that fits is that they were made for Shirley and John White of Canberra. The potter came from Sydney then moved to Bungendore near Canberra. I have forgotten his name(maybe Bruce Finlay?)

Anyone else know?

Thanks Grant. Now you have jogged my memory I think I did buy it from Bungendore many years ago. I went back some time later but the little shop was closed - should have bought more the first time!

Bruce Finlay used Clay Express as his business name if I remember correctly.

Yep, another memory jogger. I think that is correct about Clay Express and he made other pottery items and just a few bonsai pots. Its interesting that his stamp so specific in relation to the initials - and I think there is a bonsai motif in the map?
Thanks for the info.
