Bonsai inspirations from the Golf Course.

I will have to get iPhone out this weekend around my club, Albany Golf Club.

Situated right on the beach this course gets hammered with strong winds. 1 of the holes is completely parralell and open to the winds. The "dunes" that join this hole with others next door allow for some amazing Bonsai Inspirations.

Hopefully I will remember this weekend as I curse the course, marvel at its beauty and laugh with my playing partners

I can be almost sure they are all natives and I'd imagine they may all be Leptospermum varieties but I'd be interested as to the different species shown here?

Next is a cheat and is not from the GC at all I took this whilst in Geneva Switzerland.
Very interesting looking tree and "inspiring" nonetheless - not sure what it is though?

The famous Ike's tree at Augusta National has been decimated by a recent storm and is likely to be a gorner.

Sorry I missed this post Soda.
Having watched the Masters though I was aware of the death and subsequent removal of Ike's tree.
As expected you wouldn't even know it was there with it being perfectly healed and manicured in time for the tournament.

Here is a few pics from the weekend's Barnbougle escapade.
Unfortunately no pics from Lost farm as it rained all day.

Don't know what these wispy tree's are but I very much enjoyed their slender, feminine yet graceful age..

Last one is probably remnant from and an old cypress wind break, ala 13th Beach Creek course.
The first three are Melaleuca's, probably Coast paperbank.

I haven't had the chance to play down there yet, but can't wait. The lighthouse at King Island is well underway and we are going to have the ultimate destination soon! Have a gander at the construction photos at the site below.

Here's a challenge. Guess the City where I took these recently. Right next to the airport with Aussies trees all over the place, gums and Mels'.

Yes I have been aware of the recent works going on at Kind Island.
I hadn't looked at that website in detail but I have just done so and it is looking fantastic to say the least!
Has a bit of a Barwon Heads feel to it I thought for some reason? Just a heap more ocean!
I'll be checking it all out when I get the chance...

I would hazard a guess and say that your pics are from San Diego?

My 4th pic is actually a pine and not a Cypress.

I'm very familiar with the Cypress you speak of at 13th beach (beach course) and have some photo's somewhere for a next instalment within this thread...

A few more pics to share...

A couple of the 13th Beach Cypress as promised as well as a number of windswept Lepto's from 13th beach (same hole as the Cypress).
The other two are of a Leptospermum Laevigatum from the Dunes.

Note the hole right through the trunk from the 2nd perspective and beautiful flowers on the first!

A couple more from recent travels.

1st is the same tree on the 9th at Ranfurlie in Cranbourne.
There are a group of about 4-5 tree's on this hole that I'd love to know the age of.
I'd estimate a couple of hundred years.. Really cool hollow feature of this tree and naturally my phone photo doesn't do it justice.

2nd is from St Andrew's Beach - beautiful Moonah (Lept Lanceolata) and stunning almost "classic" bonsai style courtesy of nature.

That lonely twisted tea tree from June 2015 is so dramatic! One of the most desolate yet inspiring windswept trees I've seen.
The top dead branch which starts at the bottom of the tree, disappears under a live part then re-appears at the top. Just gold!

Yeah, agreed. You get spectacular trees on golf courses. I often pause before or after my shot to admire many of them.

They are usually planted or designed around the course, and the trees are quite often stand-alone trees, producing a very harshly affected tree. They are subjected to the full brunt of strong winds, damaging storms, and don't forget... angry golfers with bad aim.

I often think that pines we style might be a bit too contorted but then I see specimens like this one smack dab in the middle of golf course.
