Well I've let this one go for a bit but it's time to take it another step. Since the last picture I chopped it even lower, but I didn't wire the new leader like I should have, so it just did it's own thing. The good news is the leader thickened very well this year. The bad news is the angle is kind of weird and ugly, probably easiest to see in the last picture. As it sits today:

So the real question is do I take the whole thing off and start another new leader? Or Just chop above it and go for more funky angles to make an interesting trunk? I'm really not sure. But I've definitely learned that this thing grows fast enough I can't ignore it. It will need watched constantly to shape it.

Any thoughts, comments, criticisms, etc are welcome. Virts too if anybody feels so inspired.

take pic #4, Cut the second section back to the second branch and use that as the leader.
Repot and tile to the left for some movement out of the ground

Ken, that is exactly what I've been thinking. I'll get it done today and post some photos.

Thanks! Always nice to have another set of eyes on it before a chop.

Finally got around to the chop, and cleaned up the first one a bit too. I also scored the edges a bit so it will continue scarring over, then put some cut paste on it. I need to start working on branching a bit too. Maybe tomorrow.
