Lots of different trees; elms, celtis, figs, pines, chinese juniper(no shimpaku as we know it), murraya, podocarps, persimmon, prunus, trident maple.

This is another collection in southern China. it was actually only a few hundred meters from the Hong Kong / China border.
The owner had some trees in the show above. Podocarpus macrophylla was the most common tree used here.

Stunning display. The trunks are powerful, dynamic and massive, and the branches crackle with energy. Lots to learn. I had not thought of bonsai as the display of personal power and riches beyond comprehension, but that is certainly the world of these collections.

The pines against the walls were absolutely massive; maybe 2 mtrs.

Most of the places we visited were either specific bonsai/penjing shows related to the convention or very private gardens that you could not access if you are not on a bonsai tour.Stu wrote:Hi Grant,

Shanghai botanical gardens would be the easiest to get to but I did not visit it this time; although others did.
