Everyone thinks moss and removes it quickly. I did once, but a friend of mine, Ron Povey scalded me for doing it.
Thinking back to when I lived in tas, you can see lichen on nearly every forest tree over 30 odd years.

It grows like a weed up hear on most trees some a completely covered if growing in the undergrowth ,good to know i'll use it to my advantage .Cheers

A tree after my own heart. I like em big to. You might need to have a couple of more children, preferably boys, to help out when it comes around to repotting time.

Remove bits if they over bear the trunk and hide the bark too much, but always keep some.

Bugger repotting i MIGHT sell it to some other Mad Man or cut the side out of the box trim and slap another sheet of ply on .I was thinking as i do sometimes , i need a travelling gantry , lift ,trim and drop . Cheers

just curious but whats the other tree you have going in the grow box in the back ground of the pic of your plum trunk???????
is it a maple?

Hi Jamie yes mate it a Japanese Maple $16.95 ON EBAY .Its on a post urban yamadori maple a couple of weeks back .Its going to harvest about 16 pre trained bonsai's and then it will get the chop to a 2 man trunk .Cheers

We have some amazing lichen growing on the back fence of our current rental. My wife snapped a few photos of it the other day:

Yes , picked up by and excavator that was on site that morning . Travelled 700klm round trip to bring her home ,1 Pre trainer would be worth that .Cheers

Hi cre8ivbonsai , mate it went wheels up quite a while ago .I had a large amount of curl grubs in the soil and garden beds and by the time i found them the damage was done .I have hung onto the trunk as a garden ornament . It would be nice to have another one .Maybe the next big storm might just produce a specimen worthy of the work it takes , until then i will have to be happy with little 100mm trunks .Cheers Alpine
