This species has such poor resistance to Myrtle Rust, it will never make a good bonsai in my area.I'm not bothering with them. They are a beautiful tree, but the tree has to constantly battle the rust, so you have to maintain alternating sprays. The resistance is so poor that if you try to reduce the leaf size or cut back it really weakens the tree which in turn, allows the rust to take a stronger hold.
I'm sticking with linarifolia and squarrosa to get my Melaleuca fix. I have found these 2 Mel species' resistance to Myrtle rust to be very high.
