I bow to the "Zen" in that comment Grant. And thanks for the advice, appreciatedGrant Bowie wrote:Doing nothing at the right time is called "Masterful Inactivity"!

We would need to talk to the wife to clarify that one RoryRory wrote:In that case, I am a Masterful Husband.

I agree with an earlier comment that Japanese maple are probably not the easiest or first thought of tree for clip and grow, but agree with you that is an "hey, lets give it a go" moment.

Re: Acer palmatum..clip and grow and no wire.
Nearly two years on and i have moved the tree into a deeper grow pot for health and, of course, better growing. I have a nice pot lined up for it but not for another few years. Nice colour this year and strong growth.

Great colour and health Bodhidharma,
Also, IMO, a great topic - Clip and Grow.
Would it be possible to get a Winter photo so we can see where you are heading under the foliage - please.
Thanks,
Kevin

Lol! I love it how you think it's just an average tree, and I am drooling over it wishing it was mine!

Yeah i sometimes feel for you Central NSW people as we here in Central Vic get inundated with colour this time of year. I would not like to be back in the tropics where there is NO Autumn.kcpoole wrote:Very pretty colours Bodhi and nice shape to it too

Where's the failed layering attempt? Right at bottom of trunk? I just thought it was the bark getting older. If that's it, at least it's not a huge bulge I guess!

You can see it better in the page one pics. I was trying a wedge layer where you lift the bark up and place a wedge under it and a tourniquet above it. It has grown out some, but still there.Beano wrote:Where's the failed layering attempt?

Some colour to brighten your day Ken, a couple of trees i had earmarked for Bonsai but stuck them in big pots and let them grow as standards. Cheer up the tropical and semi tropical people.....and probably Perth.

Lol!! Used to be a tropical person, I'm loving the new outlook I have on street trees in Adelaide. I've managed to somehow resist the urge to buy a Japanese maple so far...

Up here the flowering plants are still going crazy, so there are compensations, I guess.
