Here is a picture of some foliage if you want to use it for your virt.

Sorry I was a bit late for you Stymie - feel free to do another one if you want to use some foliage.

Thanks Ant - yes a tree needing alot of work - but definately plenty of potential.

Post your entries in this thread, comp closes midnight 15th Sep.

Cheers,
Leigh.

Hey all

A quick sketch here,
I chose Front 3 for this one here

I noticed a bit of a 'kink' in the branch (circled in red) and I thought it was actually a unique feature of the tree (yes yes, the nebari and taper is awesome too, i have not forgotten that)
So I thought about trying to be artsy and use this 'kink' as a precedent in shaping the branches of the tree (also curvy, erratic etc)
Second branch from bottom on the right should probably be a bit more thicker and longer but meh.

Just a bit of fun.

A quote I am fond of is from the late John Naka (somewhere along the lines of) "Make your bonsai look like a tree don't make your tree look like a bonsai"
I don't think I achieved that at all with this virtual  lol

Lets see, this one didn't turn out as I envisioned, but thought I might put it out there... food for thought?
Tree is also nekkid (how obscene!)

And yes, I have proposed something totally outrageous!
I noticed that before the trunk at the base has some sort of symmetry, as is the nebari. Just thought I might abuse this and see what happens...

1) The tree already has super nice taper, so this may not be a wise move!!
2) This will probably be achieved through many thread grafts and many many years

Meh, here it is

ok here it is. spent a bit of time!

i picked this front because i think it had more character :)
i added some branching and developed the apex. and i know the pads are quite full for what it is but from the foliage picture it looked quite solid so i thought i would work. i tried altering the trunk a bit with taking some out and adding some natural tears and a bit of dead wood. am thinking of doing this with the other angle i like will see what happens! :D

Just wondering, whats a great Virt Bonsai Program?

from what i've seen a lot of you are using paint ( :P ) and Photoshop,
but are there and 3D bonsai programs anyone would recommend?

i just had to snatch this idea up before someone else got it :D

 lose the top and mimic that wood for the carving

 hollow out the main trunk line and get some more depth from inside that trunk

 bend that main branch down closer to the trunk
september treeComp.jpg
i might have a chance to photoshop it 2nyt...

ok, so i fell to sleep early and made my photoshop image of the tree this morning...
Crabapple3_edited-1.jpg
 i think it looks a bit better with some various renders over the top in my opinion, but im sure if this happens to the tree it would look better in person :D

That would be a great idea for this tree in a demo to someone's club - or at someone's show! Or maybe I just get the video camera out!

Nice one Arron, if that can be done without killing the tree that would be spectacular
