Hi all,

A nice tree, there's no doubt about it. I wonder though if there isn't some way we could convey the size of such a bonsai.
Whether our trees are 300 or 900-mm high, we seem to style them all the same way. With this one, it was necessary for
someone to go and measure it, so we could get our imaginations doing the right thing.
It seems to me that a greater number of tiers (obtained by dividing the larger ones) and a more slender, less compact top
would bring out the height of such a tree better than the present style does.

How about mother, child, grand child, and great grandchild.

Subjective though because there are those that say the airlayer is the same age as the tree so you have 4 generations all the same age

Any way here we go This tree was given as a gift for bonsai sitting in 1995. It was field grown by Ray Nesci. When I got it the trunk was about the size of the coke can. It was about
55cm high with lots of branches in the wrong place's.

Those cuttings that did not come up to scratch got scratched. This tree suffered some damage at its last outing by helpful people.

As for age I believe it was 5 years old when I got so that makes it approx 20 years. I was offered $ 1000.00 for it once when I was flush with cash .
Needless to say I held onto it

do you have a pic of the tree after the layers were taken off. the first one? or is that after the layers were taken off?

and it is a good question, if an airlayer is taken does that make it the age of the tree it was taken from, or does it restart? i would sort of think it would restart its bonsai age.

Jamie it was pre digital days. I am not going though all my negative film. This tree is, as after the layer was taken off.

Hi again

Here is a pick of my elm again for ease of reference.
I got the measuring stick out tonight, here are the specs

Height from base of tree to apex is 600mm
The diameter of the trunk measured above the big knot at the base is 70mm and circumference is 250mm.
The diameter of the knotted part is 120mm and the circumference 370mm.
