Hi again
Well, the Convention isn't far off now - only three weeks tomorrow

. All the prep is going well and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone here.
For those who are planning to come, but
STILL haven't registered,

you've only got five days, ie till midnight next Tuesday (30 April) to get those registrations
and payments to us. So get busy and get your registration and payment in

We can't accept late registrations...and don't want anyone to miss out.
If you are still to register, or decide to pick up some of the optional activities

, you can still register:
* as an observer for either or both Ryan's workshops on Monday and/or
* as either a participant or observer for the workshops with Andrew and/or Averil on Monday, and/or
* for the 2:30 pm tour of the NBPCA on Friday or for either of the tours on Monday
And we're very pleased to be able to let you know that the following traders will be at the Convention
* Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery
* Bonsai Environment
* Pat Kennedy (Mirkwood Forest Bonsai Pottery) - we believe that this will be Pat's last outing as a trader
* Penny Davis (Mudlark Pottery) - you can see some of the pots Penny's been preparing for Canberra in her post under 'potters'
* Ledanta Bonsai Nursery
See you in May

Full details, and online registration facility, can be found at

Just wanted to see if anybody managed to get some video of the events? I know Hugh said he was planning on it. From the photos I've seen, it looks like it was a great weekend!

G'day,
What an awesome convention!
A huge congratulations to Ruth, Joe and the whole CBS crew involved in putting on a fantastic convention.
Ryan Neil was a brilliant headliner. He is an excellent teacher and presents in such a charismatic way. He is able to entertain a room full of bonsaists while continuing to style. I picked up a lot of very good information from Ryan in his presentations and in the 2 workshops I was fortunate to do with him.
I also learnt lots from watching Averil Stanley, Leigh Taafe and Andrew Ward demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
Following are some pictures from the convention. Apologies for the phone shots... I forgot my camera
If anyone has good pictures and is willing to share, please let me know so we can put them up in a special gallery of the convention.

I wish I was there.
I'd just like to sat that whoever was responsible for providing that pine for Ryan to style in his demo, take a bow. Excellent material and a great result that I am sure even the demonstrator himself was pleased with. My biggest criticism of some demonstrations by overseas artists that come here (and one of the reasons I resist going to demos) is the poor quality material that they are provided with and more often than not, the less than inspiring result.
The pine in the Ryan Neil demo is a shows a great progression from before to after and would easily communicate a future evolution to most levels of bonsai enthusiast, of a very desirable bonsai. Bulls-eye!
Cheers,
Mojo

Hi all,
A brief explanation of the red pine.
The Red Pine in Ryans demo was donated to the NBPCA about 3 years ago in very poor health and was nursed back to health. It is in good condition and the needles after last season were short and the internodes also short. It was repotted about 2 years ago into the standard NBPCA mix Diatomite, gravel/Zeolite, pine bark mini Nuggets and coconut fibre/coir peat.
It was first styled in 1975 by John Naka and owned by Barrington Chee.
He gave the pine to Geoff Henderson many years ago but unfortunately Geoff is in very poor health and not expected to live too long but the tree should now live hundreds of years and be on display eventually at the new NBPCA site.
The AABC broke their usual rules when I offered the pine for the use by Ryan in the demo about 18 months ago because I thought Australia deserved the best possible material for Ryan to use.
Cudos to Lindsay Bebb of the AABC and the CBS for allowing this.
Cheers,
Grant
