Good evening bodhidharma,

I particularly like the roots. It suggests the tree is fighting for its place under the sun. Most black pines' roots I have seen (in pictures and in real life) are too ordered, too refined (the two properties which I have been trying to attain;) this one is different, not too ordered, not too refined but no less artistic, and very suitable for a black pines of this character IMHO.

Sorry bodhidharma, but your white pot is too sissy for this black pine. All I can see is the pine fall off the bench.

Hi Bodhi , mate its coming along very nicely , i'm so inspired by that tree that pic in a collection to remind me of the quality to aim for with a couple of Nigra Cascades i should be working on . You JBP is a great specimen and the best is yet to come . I hope one day to get over to your territory , things just ain't going to plan for me or the surgeons . I will undoubtedly catch up with you ASAP.

Dont worry Alpine it will happen when it is supposed to. A coldy is waiting. I might see you first though as i feel a road trip coming on. Got restless feelings and i know a day trip fixes it.

Hi Bodhi, I quite like your model tree too. I am yet to warm to any half moon or crescent shaped pot, they don't seem to ring my bells at all.

Pop over to the IBC and check out what Robert Kempinski from Florida has been able to do with his JBPs, you will find you are not nearly 100 years from your objective.

Hi Bodhi,

I think 5 years of careful growth would get you very close to the outline. Every year you can double the ramification so 5 years will produce quite a dense canopy, maybe not as dense as the inspiration image but close.

I really like this beginnings you have here, i think it will become a very interesting tree.

Thanks for that Daiviet, Nice compliment from you I think i agree with the pot. It is just that i am trying to attain a different perspective and way of looking at things. I do like the pot that Mojo posted though.

Have read past this post and love the development around this tree. Forget that pot you suggested Mojo is on the mark. As always I like your thinking though, and also love your inspiration tree, but wonder wether you would consider it to the left?

I cannot go past the first photo mate. I keep coming back and checking them out, and the trunk movement and the angle of the cascade bend are superb. The branching appears finer and the roots seem to flow into the trunk better. I would only remove the first little branch on the trunk and bring the one from the upper crown across. Sorry mate, just couldn't keep it in any longer

Thank you very much for your input Tony. I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge. The input from all has been inspirational. Yep, i will be looking out for a pot the calibre of the one that Moj posted. All advice will be mulled over and decisions made. Holy crow, i love Bonsai.

Gosh, where does the time go. Was it really 2012 since i spent a lot of time on this tree. I am guilty of neglect for this tree but have vowed to change my ways and give this tree a little more love. I have been wanting to bring the trunk closer to the root system and made the first effort when Gerard visited a while ago cant remember when. Anyway got stuck in today and used my "you beaut" shift anything utensil to do the job. I will remove old needles in July and do a complete rewire of the branches and get stuck into progressing this tree. When its done (July) i will post the results.

Now that's movement!

That wire looks like it's biting in a bit, will that cause long term damage?
