Hi all,
Exactly two years ago on a similar dig with Watto i dug up three hawthorn. I did not dig the first ones I saw but took time to select those with a bit of movement and potential taper.
All three survived! One however had virtually no root growth in two years but was still quite healthy. I trimmed it a bit and put into a bonsai pot. Its doing fine.
The second one had good root growth and I also potted it into a bonsai pot and its also doing well.
The one below had phenomenally good root growth; good movement, good taper and had grown well on top as well. I repotted it last Sunday into the lilac pot and its budding nicely. White flowers, red berries and a lilac pot should look fine together.
Still lots of years to go but a good start. It will sort of have one major trunk and another 4 minor trunks.(One of them was a sucker I have kept). I have chosen not to wire the branches flat. The apex is left untouched to allow it to grow and thicken to complete the taper.
Thanks Watto and Goulburn.

Nice to see your Hawthorn doing well Grant. At that dig I wasn't going to dig one, but .......
Anyway - here it is now doing very nicely. I will take a photo of todays re-pot of this tree tomorrow to show how it looks in its (oversize) pot.
It was a fun day today and I hope people enjoyed it.
Our society's philosophy is simple, if there are too many trees for our small club, then share!

Nice haul KC you should have lots of fun with them and great work organising it Watto.
I like what you have done with the hawthorn Grant. I have one still to finish styling and this should give me a little inspiration but mine has a little less movement I think

Hi there crazy kids!!!
I would also like to say thanks to Greg for being so generous to invite those who wanted to come down for the day to dig up some trees. Honestly I felt like a kid in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory; I couldnt dig fast enough !! (Felt like Augustus Gloop) Great weather , great people....... what a top day. Hey guys, next time we'll have to bring a portable BBQ and cook up some snags !!!!
Thankyou so much for organising the day Greg

It was a great day, Plenty of sun and trees. Mine are all potted up now, including a pretty big stump for carving.
Thanks again for the invite Watto. Im planning to head up the highway again with Mario for the show in October, so I might see you then.

Are those with white flowers, plums???

They sure are. The site has many plum trees and we only took a small potion of them. It is unfortunate that they will probably be poisoned in the near future as they are considered a pest at that location, but at least we save a couple (of hundred).

Hey Watto,
Thanks for having me and my family at the dig. the kids certainly enjoyed the day. I hope the big plum survives.
