ive all ways just dug them (mainly olives from quiet back roads) i live in the country area an most no that they are a pest. Ive contacted the local council over another tree because of its size an location an that was 2 weeks ago with no reply they can be very slow an not worth the trouble best to find better locations an dig at will stay away from natives an you should have little trouble

I would still go the fluro vest even with the sedan, you'd be amazed at how many concil workers have non company cars...
Then it's just the cover story on the off chance anyone stops to question, or just plead ignorance and say you didn't know!

I think if anyone stops me I'll say I'm here to relocate some of these smaller trees before they grow out of control......Not sure how that will go down being the pines I have my eye on are all about 1 to 2 free tall

The trees are on a main road, so I could possibly get chastised by the boys in blue but I will risk it.

I also live in Adelaide and I have dug from the side of main roads with no worries. I was digging on sheriffs rd and Dyson road at Reynella/Lonsdale at midday on a saturday with no vest and with no hassles. If it is a native or on someones property, then you should always ask permission, but if they are self sown seedlings I can't see a problem.

As for the mix, I would collect as much of the root ball as possible, and try not to disturb it. Then put it in a bigger container eg foam box from fruit n veg shop and fill around original soil with a free draining mix (eg diatomite etc) Mist the foliage 2-3 times a day for a few weeks, and keep in the shade and you should be right. I would however probably wait until August to collect pines in Adelaide.

I have had the police drive straight past me on 2 occasions when collecting .As long as you are not causing a traffic problem or at harm yourself
they have better things to do than ping you for digging up a weed

Good to know, as I've seen a few small pines on the side of the road on my way to work. Not sure if they're Aleppo or Radiata, but I might have to go hit them with a shovel in a month or so, which is when they should be good for collection (?)

As for the mix, I would collect as much of the root ball as possible, and try not to disturb it. Then put it in a bigger container eg foam box from fruit n veg shop and fill around original soil with a free draining mix (eg diatomite etc) Mist the foliage 2-3 times a day for a few weeks, and keep in the shade and you should be right. I would however probably wait until August to collect pines in Adelaide.

Thanks for the tips Luke, much appreciated . I know they sell diatomite at the club, would i have to pre order it before the next meeting or do they have it there to buy?
If not, Who would I have to speak to about ordering it in?
Being that meetings are only once a month i would probably need it at the first meeting in August

The order has only just been placed as far as I know so it may be available at the August meeting but it was pretty much pre-sold this year as there is no room for storing a pallet. You may be lucky to get a bag Speak to Andrew at the next meeting.
