permit to dig weeds

Hi all.
i was reading about type of weeds my area. Radiata and monterey pines are consider as weeds.
So im just wandering. since the council declare these pines are weeds does it mean that we can get council's permission to dig it out? there one monterey pine around the corner (50 meters) from my house right by the drain which is not to big to be remove.

any advise will be welcome.

Monterey adn Radiata are one and the same But yes, you should be able to get permission from the council to fig. Give them a call and ask how you go about it

Hi Dumper ,the council itself will probably want a 50 page statement as to your purpose for removal of the weed.Go to the Council depot and ask for the head gardener or Supervisor and ask Him/Her for permission to remove it .They are far more accomadating and less likely to want paper work for such a task than the Shiney Bums that push Pen and Paper .. Just remember to get a contact Name and Number of the Supervisor .Cheers Alpineart

My next question. when is the best time to dig it out. im not sure how big is it at the moment. will go and take some pictures tomorrow and post it up. (maybe to identify it too.... hopefully im not wrong with the species.)

Hey Dumper
I went through the process of gaining permission to collect from the side of the road. The State said that I could get a permit to collect Natives from National parkes but there was nothing in place for exotics (weeds). They said I could call the national park ranger and talk to them and there should be no problem as long as they new what I was doing.
I was told to call the RTA for roadside collecting.
The RTA had no issue with me collecting weeds on the side of the road as long as I was safe about it. But they are only in charge of water drain table. After that it is the council
After recent discussions with the council I did not bother contacting them but tend to stretch the drain table further thahn it actually is!

The first National park I called the ranger had no worries but they had no exotic weeds... I thought as much as they where a trial run for the national park I really wanted to collect in The important one was not keen But we did come to an agreement that we would collect out the front of the national park near the road. He would see how we went and discuss inside the park next year

The councils are basically stupid and have no idea what to do. They try to hide this behind a letter and paperwork goose chase!

here's the photo if the tree. The height is around 1m tall. trunk size around 10cm in width.

please help to confirm that this is a radiata/monterey pine tree.

Radiata for sure. i am in geelong and i have a pamphlet published by parks of local species and noxious weeds. in the weeds are mirrorbush, radiata, ash and boxthorn amongst others. it then goes on to say we have a responsibilty to remove and discourage weeds where possible so thats good enough for me. if you are worried you look conspicous just wear a flouro safety vest.

Parks have been good to us down here. let us dig weeds, anything exotic and also native but not local(coastal ti tree and maleluca amallaris-honey myrtle). i guess we got in touch with the right person, local officer not too high up the chain.

Man i so want to come on a dig with some member so i can see how its done, I can bring the yellow vests and hard hats i also have a JLL OH&S inspectors card if anyone comes along to make it official

i talk to the council......
basically... we are not allow to remove it. since it's more like a environmental weed and it is on the council land...............

now..... they are going to get someone to go there to access it..... to see if it should be remove or not......
and the council said if they are to remove it... they will call me to let me know whether i can keep it or not......

Aussiedamo has good point tho'. recently i went thru al the right channels in our community centre redevelopment. i just wanted a couple of mirror bush growing out of kerb in carpark. spoke to secretary, project manager, site manager, all said no worries. the lot was bulldozed along wth nice desert ashes and paperbarks. i should have gone early sunday morning.

i would love tho know what trouble you could get into if you just do it."removal of noxious weed from public property"?
seriously has anybody out there gotten themselves in the poo by just doing it. what was the charge, how long in the slammer and was the tree worth it. thing that upsets me is these trees mean a lot to us but nothing to others. councils rip out years of age only to replace with saplings or $$$$$$$ worth of advanced trees. cryin shame.
