nice tree youve convinced me to do something similar with an elm i have as i havent really known what to do with it. thanks for the inspiration. how much abuse can an elm take when it comes to carving as ive only really tried hollowing a fig ot 2 with limited success. any help much appreciated.

Hi de_keizer, you ask
de_keizer wrote:how much abuse can an elm take when it comes to carving
well as far as i can tell, you could pretty much take all but a couple of millimeters of the heartwood out of an elm, and it'll still grow!! Thats how deep some of my carving goes. Ofcourse i dont recommend you go that far if your not too confident as its very easy to start making holes by accident. :palm: . My advice is to start by taking a little out then next time take some more,,,until you finally end up with what you want.

Looking great Craig. What have you done to fill the gap on the bottom right of the trunk? Graft?

Looking good Craig

The structure of this tree is coming on very nicely indeed. May I ask why you have kept the left side longer than the right?

Looking good, the tree has filled in nicely. I was wondering the same thing as Tony, why the ling left side? Love the pot but I think it is a little heavy for the tree.

Maybe something a little shallower next repot?
