Spiral growth in casuarina?

Post by Hornet »

Has anyone seen the unusual spiral growth in casuarina or any of the other related genera in the past? I have seen it twice before, once in a Alocasuarina emuensis seedling which reverted to the typical whorled growth after a few months and now i have a small spiralled growth on my casuarina glauca. I found this publication online http://books.google.com.au/books?id=ea- ... na&f=false

It gives a brief description on what causes it.

2 questions,

Can anyone give me a breif description on what the "construction curves" and "construction system" are?

Has anyone seen this spiral growth remain more long term? I think it would make for quite an interesting plant.
