Wisteria Flowering Now?

Post by toohey »

Hi All,
I went out to my bonsai today and my wisteria has one branch only with flowers.
Is this an unusual time for bonsai to flower?
Regards
Michael

A hard prune and some potassium based fertiliser can encourage flowers in summer but they are generally smaller and far fewer. Besides, I think Wisteria look best without foliage.

Ken is correct, they spot flower all through summer. You should take them off throughout the Summer so as not to inhibit your next Springs flowering. Lots of food and water.

A bit of a late reply but when they flower in summer it's because when branches/new growth is cut back, you are forcing next spring's dormant flower buds, which would not happen if not pruned.
