Flowering Ash - fraxinus griffithii - anyone got one??

Hi all

I picked up a 3m Flowering Ash this afternoon and cut it down just above a few small branches - probably 40cm above the nebari. It has a nice sloping trunk and a thick base but will need carving as there is little taper.

I've looked at the website and can't find much and thought there might be some with knowledge out there.

Would any members who have one please let me know about their trees. I'd like to know if they back bud much. How hardy are they and how much root work can they cope with. From some of the internet pics i see that that they often are cut back to just two leaves on the branchlet when leaf pruning....

I will not do much other than feed and feed - maybe just slip pot it and see how it copes with the trunk chop and wait till i can do more research and get some feedback.

assuming they are like other ash you should be right just looking for info on any fraxinus sp. I have a couple of small ones, not sure on species but they do back bud well and seem very hardy, left in a bucket of water over a week they were throwing out heaps of new roots

Stewart, we have one we got for $1 at a local nursery about 2yrs ago. These trees bud back every where, grow quickly and leaves reduces easily. a great variety to work with.

Great to hear you've had good experiences with this tree. When i get back into town, ill post some pics although it will show a long stump with a few small branches at the top. Do you think it could cope with a full trunk chop, without any exhisting branches and then throw back budding low down?

Cheers - would love to see some more trees if members have any.
