Hi All,
One of my Fukien tea cuttings, which I placed in a cup of water, are starting to produce new growth. However some of the new leaves appear to be deformed. I've tried looking for aphids, there doesn't seem to be any. I live in Singapore, the weather is pretty hot and humid here, any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks!
I don't know if it's related, but the right leaf appears to have much denser trichomes.
The top leaf is normal while the bottom one looks deformed.

Update:
After closely examining a few deformed leaves, I found what appears to be mites. It was really small, I couldn't tell if they were mites or aphids even with a 20x magnifying glass. Could mites cause deformities on new buds?

Anything that sucks or chews on new buds can cause deformed leaves. The other possibility might be nutrient deficiency. If these are just in water they will not be getting much in the way of feed.

I would not be too worried unless they keep doing it after the cuttings are on their own roots

I have experienced quite a similar problem when some of the leaves on my bonsai started to have holes right in them. And not through with it, those affected leaves started turning yellowish in color that proved to be even more hazardous.
Though I don't think that the same is caused to both of our leaves with yours looking to be a lot like done by some of its inner workings while mine should be from the environment.
