Hi guys

this tree is in flower a the minute and has been for the last month i see them sometimes growing as street trees here in sydney. It has beautiful and unusual smooth bark.

Hi Paul...Hard to see the Photo ,but it sounds like Crepe Myrtle or Lagerstroemia... :) Cheers ....Dog

Looks like a crepe myrtle by the flowers and your description, glad to halp.

We will need a clearer photo for a positive ID but it appears to be a crepe myrtle.
