Cheap Juniper practise

Hi

I bought this juniper Chinensis Daviruca cheap from the local Brunnings. Thought I would practise some wiring and bending before i tackle nice material I have waiting in the wings.
this is the result of about an 1hr of fun. I know that it won't make a good bonsai and I know that this species is not that suited to bonsai but i thought I would just share my results out of interest.

I think its a great effort. i have been doing the same to try and hone my wiring skills. try and grab somthing cheap with some sub-branches you know the twiggy ones and try that to.. goodl luck.

Why are you apologising? It has a good strong trunk line, and foliage you can work with - go for it. Would you consider bending the outer half of the trunk a bit more, to match the curves on the inner half?

Ray - that is an interesting idea. so you are saying that I could develop that branch you allude to to create another apex/tree? i have seen them on some beautiful cascades. might hunt for more cheap stock with that in mind too - thanks for the advice

Gavin, thats a good idea and I guess it would balance or match the other curves lower down. Was thinking of wrapping in rubber and using larger guage wire to really put some movements in this tree. thankyou

Elias, thanks for you encouragement. I have lots to learn but using cheap trees to practise on is I think a good way to gain some confidence.
