Hello went on a olive hunt today with a guy i met on this site who is a member of the Southern Bonsai Club i was looking for a closer area to look so we went out around Willunga area an found this monster.
Took some time digging this one out along with 100s of questions we had from my 3 children but after 2hrs we finaly got it out dragged it to the car an squeezed it in my car below are some pictures
I have to say a big THANK YOU to Paul an anytime you need a hand to dig out a monster like this just let me no paul

Excellent stump, good score (deep envy from the east).
Are you sure that the "back" doesn't offer a good clear stump base? I'd be thinking about it. It seems less congested that the "front", particularly if the big left-side trunk gets taken out (the smaller trunks can cover it.) Just a thought (after a couple of beers).
Yeah a pot might be hard to find but have seen them but not in South Australia. The box its in now is 60cm X 40 an just makes it be looking for a rectangle pot 80cm X 60cm or a square 60cm X 60cm.
Ive chosen this as the front for now as im a fan of deadwood an give me a lot of options but this may change depending on where there re-growth comes from. This will be the center piece of my bonsai collection in time in about 10yrs
The tree is 110cm wide by 80cm high.

It was a pleasure to show you a few local spots, and for you to find what you were hopeing for.
I havent tackled mine as yet, will do so tonight after work, need to bring my chainsaw home first
Now that offer to help me on a dig....well there is a gnarly redgum I have had my eye on, trouble is I cannot get an excavator in there
Had a few beers an got the hand saw out today it needed some direction so chop chop took of the branches that where going to the right an in 2yrs time ill get the chain saw out to finnish the job picture shows where ill cut hopefully this will give me a better choice of pots to chose from.
Looking like a large wind swept design now but with one straight trunk an the other curved might look at doing a twin trunk ending up about 85-90cm tall just have to wait to see where i get the regrowth from i just hate waiting

Um Paul, you know we have a backhoe? I picked up another olive similar to the one I gave you, but one big trunk, its gonna be brilliant if it lives. Currently soaking.
Next door is a fantastic olive, about 3 feet high and been grazed a lot so naturally bonsaied, if that is a verb. If I get cooperation from hubby (already got neighbour permission) it could be lifted with the backhoe. This tree is symmetrical, neatly grazed to a tight stump but at least 20 years old. Ive been drooling from a distance for a while, If I can get it it is a two person tree, worth $1000 on the first day.
If you are not killing plants, then you are not extending yourself as a gardener..
Had a little dig on this big olive to see if anything was happening carefully digging down one side i came across some new roots growing its great to no the tree is starting to recover real happy right now . below is a picture of the roots growing
