Leptospermum

Post by Pup »

I have just looked right though the natives for this tree in its early stages. I am sure I posted it here in a pot that was later sold on site as it did not suit the tree.

After trying various pot and not being 100 percent with them. I finally settled for this Pat Kennedy Pot, at last I am happy with the pot.

Just wish I could find the original posts of it way back when, any way I hope you like this as much as I do.

Cheers Pup :D

Hey Pup,

Great tree & pot combination :tu: It looks a bit bigger than your usual trees, how tall is it? Would love to hear a bit more about its history.

Matt

Thank you Matt, in looking back this tree disappeared just as quickly this time as last time as I still cannot find it. The Dimensions are 600mm high by 600mm wide. The base of the trunk at soil level is 150mm at the beginning of the trunk it is 70mm.

I first saw this tree about 10 years ago in a friends collection, I thought it was a gum tree, I was told it was a Darwin Willow!!, anyhow I liked it and made the comment that if you ever want to sell, please offer me first refusal.

In January 2008 I was offered the tree, we negotiated a price, it became mine, I then found out it was a Leptospermum brachyandrum. I did not like the pot for the tree as it was more suitable for a Pine, (is there one in it yet Steven ? ) so it was sold.

I then had the job of trying to put my self into the tree, it was and is still not the easiest of tasks. The tree was styled by my friend whom I consider the best woman Bonsai Artist in the west, in a very feminine style.
It was chosen for the MAY 2011 convention, when I was preparing trees for that show Mrs Pup asked if she could help. I said yes get all the dead twigs out, as it has a tendancy to have a lot of die back of twigs on the internals.
When Iturned round after about 15 minutes Mrs pup had taken half the foliage off because there was some dry leaf tips.
It did not recover in time for the show.
It will be on show maybe in October this year in Fremantle.

Cheers Pup. I hope you enjoy this little diatribe Matt here is a picture from when I bought it after I had paid for it

Thanks Pup :tu:

I can see why you admired it in your friends collection and glad you succeeded in obtaining it. Of the changes you have made my favorite is the 2 stones at the base of the tree. :worship:

Would love to see some pics of it when on display in October, I am sure you will have it looking even better than it does now.

Hi ya Matt that was one of the hardest things to do either that or try planting deeper which meant taking too much from the roots, as the tree loves water. The best part is it is one stone.

Izzy there are two trees in my collection that are not for sale, this one might make it 3 as Mrs pup and my Bonsai Son, made a comment on Saturday when it was finished.

As to its permanency here at the Kennels.

Glad you all like it coz I do, lots.

Cheers Pup :D
