I was wondering what the best species of oaks for bonsai are. Or are they all good?
I live in Canberra, so there are plenty different species around to collect acorns from.
Cheers

G'day Mozzie, at the moment i grow 3 types of oak, The English oak , The Pin oak and The Corkbark oak.
They all have different habits and traits, i like all 3. as The Hacker says "give em a go".

Re: Good Oaks for Bonsai
I have English Oak, and Pin oak
English have smaller leaves that will reduce, but verry litle autumn colour. Pin Oak leaves do not reduce ( look for a larger tree and plan on a large bonsai) but they Autumn colour is Stupendous

Holly oak/ Live oak is also good with much smaller leaves that English elm. It is evergreen like cork oak.
