These first two photos were taken about 2 years ago when this tree was on loan to the National collection.
I visited the owner today looking for some free advice......I soon learned that the advice was not free as he needed a hand with the repotting of this beautiful tree.

I especially like the way the tree has been deliberately raised in the pot over the last couple of years to expose a little bit more of the nebari.
It just keeps getting better.

I Love it!!! There's something eerie about this tree when it's in all it's winter glory. Would'nt be selling that one that's for sure. :tu2:

Gerard,
This tree was a favourite of mine when it was in the Melbourne exhibition (was it 2006?) and it continued to be a favourite of mine when it was at the National Collection and it still impresses.

The overall effect is wonderful. The owner has considered the tree/pot combination with great consideration.

would it give more 'age' if the bottom 2 or 3 branches were drooped a little?

I agree but it is interesting that you made this comment as the owner was keen to try another to see how it looked before reverting to the old pot.

The first tree this reminds me of whenever I see it is Mike Persiano's Korean Hornbeam. Looking at them side by side perhaps there is a similar feeling somewhere in there, at least for me.
