A stump

Post by MattA »

Just under 5yrs ago I was given a couple of Prunus persica hybrid seedlings that had come up in the compost. They were planted and left to grow, it was 3 yrs before the first flowers, a handful of fruit the year after & a poor crop this past season I decided to dig them up & see if they could be made into something.

The trunk isnt huge at 6cm dia but hidden just under the soil line was a great spreading mass over 15cm in dia and a nice spread of roots around 3 sides. I decided to plant it back in the ground to speed developing some branching.

I'll be interested to see how you go with this - I've got a stump of this, and never been entirely happy with branching, leaf size, shape and such. It's not an easy species.

Not easy but lots of fun ;) Wouldnt mind seeing yours Gavin.

I had a peach for about 10yrs until I left Sydney in '99, crazy cut about thing with anything but a look of "bonsai". I miss that peach as well as a few others of the old collection. Its taken 5yrs but am slowly putting a better one together, another 5 & who knows

why don't you do this with that prunus bliriana? that's what I'm intending on doing with it..., cut it back, improve the nebari, then see what I develop on top...

I just think you are giving away something that you will later regret. I'm not going to complain (hubby is tho) I feel that the tree has definate possibilities.. but I'm not going to say no... I'll happily take it off your hands.. your loss.

My only regrets are the things left undone & I still have a few years to sort them out :D
