JWP progress..and a resounding CRACK

I have had this jwp for about five years now and it has only been repotted and kept growing. As it has been raining for a week now and i dont have to water or WEED it was an opportunity to have a look at this tree. I have wondered where i would go with it and the previous owners plan was not how i would have gone about it, but whats done is done. It has some age by the barking up of its trunk so it was worth a plan to try and change it for the better. After wiring it up and looking at angles i decided the trunk was letting any changes to the top down. It needed some movement and i roped it up and applied my big trunk bender. It slowly moved and i thought i would be able to achieve some movement over the next year or so. As i was fiddling with the wiring of the top about ten minutes later there was a RESOUNDING CRACK so now i will wait and see if it survives. I have lost a few trees of late and i hope this one will survive I have a plan "B" for the lower branch into a shohin if the top dies. We will wait and see.

Thanks guys Hopefully it will all turn out for the better. I am learning to look at the situation in a positive. The tree was no good as it was so, in that regard, it can only improve.....if it survives.

Pup, I think for Goyomatsu breakages you are entitled to reach for a word with a bit more flavour than "BUGGER". I know I would....quietly of course

Thanks Mojo, I am on a bit of a bad run at the moment with doing things to average Trees. That is Bonsai though. I have just declared my large Mela dead but hope this does not follow. I dont have many JWP

The tree has survived and has powered on. I have been a little over cautious with this tree as i dont know a lot about them as yet. I have started it styling and it has a long way to go. It might lose the lower large branch and become literati but i am leaving it on as it might also become the tree (chop the top) and be reworked. I have three fronts and would like to see what people think.

I like the first branch, perhaps it is the future? In any case I would not be hasty in removing it.

I am leaning toward front one but time will tell. As usual my crappy photos do not help or give this tree credit.

Front 1 does have more room around the branches for growth and as it grows I think it will have a chance to be refined some more.

I think I can start to see a tree in there now more than a literati. What ever direction you end up going in I think it will make for a dramatic tree.

First and foremost..Hello. I have been extremely busy and having just come back from Canada i am WAAAAYYY behind in my repotting,"Again". I have not repotted for a couple of years now so, even starting this late, i will have to go for it. Anyway, i finally got to work on this guy which, every time i walk past it says, Hey man, my wire is to tight and i need help. It has been needle plucked and styled (again) and can now get repotted and sit on my bench for another year. Still a long way to go but it does change every time i work on it. i have changed the front and will tilt the tree forward when i repot it today.

Good work Bodhi, this tree is coming along nicely, I like the second option. You can see the movement in the upper portion upper portion of the tree and there is a subtle branch crossing the the lower portion where the trunk is straight also making the graft less noticeable.
