Cotoneaster Dammeri surprise

Post by cuwire »

Well to a new comer this is a very plesant surprise after watching my one year old maples and liquid ambers struggling to make an autumn showing I get this little surprise into winter.

Just a tube stock from Bunnings 1 year ago put into a small pot not knowing what to expect ... its itself 11cm and I think it looks pretty spiffy.

I would expect to see the leaves fall soon but seeing I have posted in evergreen :palm: I guess the leaves will just change back in spring ?? ... will pot up in spring.

In years to come you may be lucky enough to get flowers in spring & berries in winter too :tu:

Nice colour
I think that like azaleas, the older leaves will colour up and fall off later, so that they can be replaced.

Well here is an update on this little cotoneastor.

I re-potted mid August and made a note at the time that the soil in the 'old' pot was quite muddy ... but thought little of it.

Once in the new pot I watered regularly same as my others plants. The cotoneastor began to look quite sick .. and thinking .. "I am going to loose this one" I did not take a snap :palm: ... all leaves headed down .. in a uniform droop.

Luckily several members started threads on cotoneastors and one response kept cropping up "be carefull not to overwater .. cotoneastors do not survive if the soil overly wet".

The old pot was soggy .. I guess overwatered in winter and now I am hitting the new pot the same way .. its not spring yet and the roots are really not ready yet to take up so much water and the plant did not like it.

The upshot is I took this advice ... separated the plant from others and gave it only the amount of water it could take up.

All things bright and beautiful .. :tu: :tu:

Ok Matt will wait for the berrys now and Ken this one lost all the winter colour but did not drop a leaf.

Cheers for all the advice on over watering
