Hi,
Today the GBS had their annual dig and this year we dug Hawthorn. We have dug this species before but the quantity and quality of the stock is just fantastic and every year we go to this location we think it might be our last as the property owner does not like Hawthorn as he normally runs fine wool sheep. And as you could appreciate fine wool sheep and the thorns are not a good mix. Every few years he fires up the bulldozer and clears another 5 or 10 hectares and many trees are gone.
Anyway, after a few days of freezing weather (wind, snow etc) today was a beauty, about 4 deg C and only a light breeze so the clothing was down to about 6 layers!
There are no limits on the number of trees we are allowed to take and as long as we leave the place tidy all is OK.
Hope you enjoy the pics.

And a few results of the day are following. At this loaction there are straight ones, but quite a few with natural movement which is great for Yamadori in Australia.

Lovely stuff Watto
How many did you have on the dig?
It will be wonderful to see these as a progression or 2 over the next few years.

Re: Goulburn Bonsai Society Dig
Ken - we only had a small number of participants today as we did not get the necessary approval to dig until quite late, but still it was a great day out.
Bodhi - honest I only dug a couple of smallish ones so I'm just a bit knackered instead of completely stuffed. The smallish ones had a trunck width of about 150mm.
Mick - we are all looking forward to you posting a progression series on this tree?
K2 - that was our intention but as previously mentioned we only got approval late so there was not sufficient time to organise those things. However future digs are on the cards as we don't like good stock to be lost to the bonsai fraternity.
