sapium sempervirens oh bugger!

Post by matty-j »

hey guys i was at work and i was driving along and saw this (so ive been told) sapium sempervirens dug up and left on the side of a dirt pile for 24 hours :palm:
so i potted it up chopped it hard and it started throwing buds :tu:
so this afternoon i "tried" to wire some movement in to the new leader
and had a great " oh bugger" moment :palm:
so i wired :lost: (maybe not the best idea) back on the section that snapped on
it all lined back up great so i thought why not
what are the chances of this section dyeing off?
any thoughts on if i was heading in the right direction anyway?
any help would be great guys

Hi Matty, It does look very much like a Sapium "sebiferum" not sempervirens. (Chinese Tallow) Where the break has occurred it will probably die from there up. Don't worry though as they back bud prolifically. :fc: I have tried them a few times and find them frustrating, as they have a tendency for all of the branches to die back from the ends over winter, and you must allow for this at the end of summer, by not trimming too far back.
